Pallet types and sizes – EUR pallet, half pallet and more

The right pallet makes freight both cheaper and simpler. Here we go through the most common pallet types, their dimensions and how many fit on a truck – so you can plan and price your transport correctly.

The EUR pallet (EUR/EPAL)

The standard pallet in Europe measures 1200 × 800 mm and normally takes loads up to around 1,500 kg. It's exchangeable in the EUR/EPAL pool, which makes it convenient in international freight.

A standard trailer holds around 33 EUR pallets in a single layer on the floor.

Half pallet and quarter pallet

The half pallet measures 800 × 600 mm – half the EUR pallet – and suits smaller shipments or retail display. Quarter pallets (600 × 400 mm) are used for very small consignments.

One-way and industrial pallets

One-way pallets are used when the pallet isn't returned, and come in several sizes. The industrial pallet 1200 × 1000 mm is common outside the EUR pool.

Loading metre – how space is measured

For part loads, pricing is often by loading metre (LDM) – how many metres of the load space's length your goods take. A EUR pallet placed on its short side takes about 0.4 loading metres.
